The name is Syriac per Freiha, Hbeika and Armala, from two parts 'bayt kifa' meaning the place of the rock or idol. Freiha also relates the diminutive form to an Aramaic word for barren land. The only remains found are some worked stones.

History

Bkifa was among the villages destroyed outright in the civil war of the last quarter of the twentieth century. Its people began rebuilding from the mid-1990s, after reconciliations were held and the displaced persons’ fund paid compensation.
