About Kfarnabrakh

Kfar Nabrakh is a municipality in the Chouf District of Mount Lebanon Governorate, Lebanon. It is located 50 kilometers southeast of Beirut.

Name & origin

Read as Aramaic/Phoenician 'village of the blessed' (Kfar Mbarak). A locality named Hurmun, with ancient sarcophagi and stone benches, suggests a former place of worship.

History

A mixed Druze and Christian village benefiting from Emir Bashir the Great's canal that carries Barouk water to Beiteddine. It was declared a model town in 2001 under a UNDP programme supporting the return of the displaced. Its Saint George (Mar Girgis) feast is held on 23 April. The town is crossed by a main road that links Deir el Qamar and Beiteddine with Batloun and Barouk and forms part of a route connecting the Chouf with the Aley and Matn districts; much of the village's commerce sits along it.
