Ketermaya is a town in Iqlim el-Kharroub in the Chouf district of Mount Lebanon, close to the coast on the Iqlim's main road. Its Syriac name means 'the perpetual water', and Late Bronze Age pottery and burial urns were found among Phoenician remains at its western entrance.

History

Ketermaya, in the qada of Chouf, carries a Syriac name meaning 'perpetual water'. Phoenician structures at its western entrance yielded Late Bronze Age pottery and burial urns, and rock-cut sarcophagi and ancient remains are scattered across its lands. Its church was destroyed during the war; its old mosque (Jami' al-Sheikh Said) and the shrine of 'Sheikh Saleh' remain.

Ketermaya is one of the seventeen municipalities that form the Union of Municipalities of Iqlim El-Kharroub El-Chamali — the northern half of the Iqlim El-Kharroub belt of Chouf District.
