Mghairiyeh is a town in Iqlim el-Kharroub — the coastal side of the Chouf district, Mount Lebanon — at about 392 m elevation. In the nineteenth century it was known as Baydar el-Mir, the Emir's threshing floor, for its abundant wheat — its threshing floors among the largest in Iqlim el-Kharroub — while the caves that give the town its name, the fortified Iskandarouna hill and its ancient quarries speak to much older settlement.

The caves that give the town its name served as burial places in antiquity and were later used as shelters by farmers.
