Ammiq (Chouf) is home to the monastery of Mar Mikhael, built in the eighteenth century and later listed by decree among Lebanon's official archaeological buildings; on 4 July 2002 the foundation stone was laid for a hall and a church of Mar Mikhael belonging to the Basilian Salvatorian Order. The town saw displacement during the war of the 1980s and was among the villages that benefited from the return plan and compensation before 27 July 1991.
